We demand immediate, enforceable accountability for the Israeli government’s actions, and for the unconditional release of all detained activists

AMP unequivocally condemns the Israeli military’s assault on the Gaza aid flotilla and the mass detention of over 170–200 international activists, including dozens of Americans.

These ships were carrying aid to a population that has been systematically starved, besieged, and cut off from the most basic necessities of life by the Israeli government. Instead of allowing even symbolic relief to reach Gaza, Israeli forces intercepted the flotilla in international waters, boarded civilian vessels, and detained those on board, actions that can be described as unlawful and akin to piracy.

Israel has made its message unmistakable: it does not care about Palestinian life. Even as more than two million people are driven deeper into an engineered famine and societal collapse, the apartheid state remains committed to its goal of complete occupation and seizure of all Palestinian land, at any cost.

This is not the first time Israel has targeted a humanitarian flotilla, and the only reason it continues to do so is that it has been allowed to act with impunity. The world had an opportunity to draw a line the first time activists were killed aboard these ships years ago. It had another when Israel escalated into a full-fledged genocide in Gaza. Each time, the response fell short, and each time, the threshold for what is tolerated shifted further.

The arrest of activists from over 70 countries should trigger immediate, decisive consequences. Instead, it lands in a now-familiar pattern: outrage blunted, accountability deferred, and the rules that are supposed to govern conduct in war treated as optional. Over the past three years in particular, Israel has accelerated this trajectory, with its Gaza genocide, its accelerated settler colonial expansion of the West Bank and expanding military operations in Lebanon and Iran with little regard for proportionality or restraint. Each step tests the limits of what the international community will tolerate, and each time, the line moves. This is what impunity looks like in practice: a sustained campaign carried out with the expectation that no meaningful consequences will follow.

There is no legal or moral framework that justifies attacking humanitarian missions. There is no doctrine that permits the deliberate obstruction of aid to civilians. And there is no credible path forward that continues to shield these actions from accountability. The question is no longer whether these actions violate international law; it’s what it will actually take for the world to enforce it. We call for immediate, enforceable accountability for the Israeli government’s actions, and for the unconditional release of all detained activists. Every individual taken from those ships must be freed without delay, with their safety and rights fully guaranteed.

The Rights Forum organiseert op donderdag 21 mei een bijzonder evenement met Fatou Bensouda, voormalig hoofdaanklager van het Internationaal Strafhof. Met Bensouda en de andere gastsprekers zullen we de toenemende druk op het Hof en de verantwoordelijkheid van Nederland als gastland onder de loep nemen.

Achtergrond
Het Internationaal Strafhof werd opgericht om daders van de ernstigste misdrijven te kunnen vervolgen. Maar vandaag de dag ligt het Strafhof zelf onder vuur. De sancties en dreigementen van Israël en de Verenigde Staten, als reactie op het Palestina-onderzoek van het Strafhof, roepen ernstige vragen op over het functioneren van het Hof en de bereidheid van staten om het te verdedigen.

Ook Nederland, nota bene gastland van het Hof, doet weinig om deze druk tegen te gaan. Sterker nog, het blijft het de verantwoordelijken van de dreigementen behandelen als politieke bondgenoten.

Wat betekent dit voor de internationale rechtsorde? En waarom heeft Nederland als gastland nagelaten effectief op te treden?

Sprekers
Fatou Bensouda, voormalig aanklager van het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC), zal reflecteren op de concrete impact van sancties op het werk en de onafhankelijkheid van het Hof. Tijdens haar ambtstermijn werden zij en haar familie geconfronteerd met directe bedreigingen en intimidatie.

Ahmed Abofoul, juridisch adviseur bij Al-Haq, zal ingaan op hoe Palestijnse mensenrechtenorganisaties worden geraakt door sancties. Al-Haq en andere Palestijnse ngo’s zijn door de Verenigde Staten en Israël doelwit gemaakt vanwege hun werk rond mensenrechtenschendingen.

Kati Piri, lid van de Tweede Kamer voor PRO, geeft een politiek perspectief op de verantwoordelijkheid van Nederland en mogelijke stappen. Zij heeft de Nederlandse regering opgeroepen om Israëlische dreigementen te onderzoeken en in Europees verband maatregelen te nemen om het Hof te beschermen.

Het gesprek wordt gemodereerd door dr. Giulia Pinzauti, universitair docent Internationaal Recht aan de Universiteit Leiden.

Terreur | Kolonisten en leger schieten opnieuw kinderen dood op Westoever

Het was – weer – een bloedige week op de bezette Westelijke Jordaanoever. Kolonisten en Israëlische militairen schoten in drie dagen tijd vier Palestijnen dood, onder wie twee tieners.

Het meest gewelddadige incident vond dinsdag plaats. Gewapende Joodse kolonisten openden het vuur op een school in het dorp Al-Mughayyir nabij Ramallah. Ze schoten daarbij de 14-jarige scholier Aws al-Naasan door het hoofd. De 32-jarige Jihad Abu Naim, die de scholieren probeerde te helpen, werd ook doodgeschoten. Zeker vier anderen raakten gewond.

‘Ze doen dit elke dag om ons te verjagen,’ zei een inwoner van het dorp tegen Al Jazeera. ‘Ze intimideren scholieren en maken kinderen bang. Maar al doden ze ons allemaal, wij zullen ons niet overgeven aan de bezetting.’

Aanhoudend geweld
Dit jaar alleen al hebben kolonistenmilities op de Westelijke Jordaanoever 16 Palestijnen vermoord, aldus het Palestijnse ministerie van Gezondheid. Het Israëlische leger doodde in bezette gebied de afgelopen vier maanden nog eens 26 Palestijnen.

Daarnaast zijn er dagelijks pogroms van kolonisten waarbij olijfbomen, waterbronnen, voertuigen en andere Palestijnse bezittingen worden vernield. Begin deze week wierpen kolonisten een barricade met prikkeldraad op in het dorp Umm al-Khair, in het gebied Masafir Yatta, waardoor kinderen hun school niet meer kunnen bereiken.

Kinderen die bij de barricade protesteerden werden door het leger met traangas uiteengedreven. De school heeft zijn deuren moeten sluiten.

4 mei inclusief | Opnieuw een alternatieve dodenherdenking met ruimte voor Palestijnse slachtoffers

Op 4 mei vindt ook dit jaar weer een alternatieve dodenherdenking plaats. Opnieuw om het ‘Nooit weer’ ook voor de huidige tijd te doen klinken. Het organiserende Comité van Waakzaamheid, bestaande uit rijksambtenaren en oud-diplomaten, roept op stil te staan bij álle slachtoffers van oorlogsgeweld – toen én nu.

Want: als je de geschiedenis levend wil houden moet je juist ook solidair zijn met de slachtoffers van huidige genocides en grove schendingen van mensenrechten, meent het Comité van Waakzaamheid. De zinspreuk van dit jaar is: ‘We herdenken niet alleen wat was. We staan stil bij wat er op het spel staat.’ The Rights Forum sluit zich bij deze gedachte aan.

Europa zet zichzelf ten schande. Deze week executeerde Israël in Libanon een journaliste en ook deze week weer vermoordde Israël Palestijnse burgers in Gaza en op de Westelijke Jordaanoever. Volgende maand staat Israël gewoon weer op het podium van het Europese Songfestival.

Europa zet zichzelf ten schande. Deze dinsdag kwam bij een vergadering van EU-ministers de opschorting van de handelsovereenkomst met Israël ter tafel. Asmogendheden Duitsland en Italië blokkeerden het initiatief.

Een handelsverdrag dat mensenrechten hoog in het vaandel draagt, maar wegkijkt bij genocide. Een liedjesfestijn om Europese verbroedering te bevorderen als vijgenblad voor onderdrukking en landroof. Schande. 

De komende weken zet BDS vol in op de boycot van het Eurovisie Songfestival. Meer dan duizend artiesten steunen deze boycot. Join the choir.

Highlights

• An updated mapping by OCHA shows 925 movement obstacles across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem – the highest number recorded in the past 20 years and 43 per cent above the two-decade average.
• Since January 2023, 45 Palestinian communities have been fully displaced across the West Bank due to settler attacks and related access restrictions, including nine communities in 2026.
• In Gaza, two years of escalated hostilities caused development to leap back by an estimated 77 years, a new European Union and United Nations assessment finds.
• While major impediments persist, aid entry into Gaza surged considerably between 14 and 20 April, compared with the previous week, attributable, inter alia, to the reopening of Zikim Crossing.
• Two UNICEF contractors killed while delivering drinking water in northern Gaza, prompting the suspension of operations at a key filling point.

Overview

Across the Occupied Palestinian Territory, people continue to face acute protection, access and humanitarian challenges driven by systemic violence, movement restrictions and the erosion of essential services. Recurrent attacks affecting civilians – including children, aid workers and service providers – drive and sustain displacement and further heighten risks to Palestinians’ safety and wellbeing, particularly for displaced communities, women, girls and others facing intersecting vulnerabilities.

In a new report covering 2025, UN Women notes that across Gaza and the West Bank, women and girls remained in urgent need of lifesaving humanitarian protection and assistance, including access to food, clean water, shelter, health care, and education. It warns that women and girls continue to face heightened risks of gender-based violence – particularly older women, those with disabilities or caring for family members with disabilities. The report links those risks to repeated displacement, overcrowded and unsafe living conditions, resource scarcity and the collapse of family and community protective networks. All the while, the report warns, access to services that prevent or respond to gender-based violence remain critically limited. A separate report by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) warns of harmful coping mechanisms, including child marriage, across the Occupied Palestinian Territory. In Gaza, UNFPA warns that such practices are on the rise, accompanied by a surge in adolescent pregnancies.

In the West Bank, sexualized and gender-based violence is occurring “within a coercive environment that contributes to the forcible transfer of Palestinian communities,” according to a recent report by the West Bank Protection Consortium. Communities have reported a “broader pattern of sexualized harassment, intimidation and humiliation, much of which remains underreported,” including conduct that takes “sexualized and gendered forms.” In this context, “more than 70% of displaced households identified threats to women and children, particularly sexualized violence, as the decisive reason for leaving,” highlighting its role as a key driver of displacement. The report further notes that such violence “penetrates domestic space, fractures family life and renders continued civilian residence untenable,” reinforcing the cumulative pressures that lead families to leave their communities.

While Attention Shifts Elsewhere, Violence Against Palestinians Escalates

While the world focuses on Israel and Trump’s aggression on Iran, not to mention the fake Gaza “ceasefire,” the crime of crimes, better known as genocide, is ongoing, and violence by Israeli extremist settlers, in collusion with the Israeli military, has exploded to new heights. Read AJP Action's memo on recent events here.

In the first 40 days of the war on Iran alone, Yesh Din, an Israeli human rights organization, documented 378 settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank. This week, a settler killed a 14-year-old student and a parent in a school shooting, with Israeli military cover. Meanwhile, Israel continues attacking civilians in Gaza despite the so-called “ceasefire.”

Take action today by calling and emailing your Representative and Senators. Demand that they:

• Launch full U.S. investigations into the killings of American citizens by Israeli settlers and military forces, including the recent killing of Palestinian-American Nasrallah Abu Siyam
• Investigate whether U.S.-funded or supplied weapons have been used in attacks on civilians, and whether export end-use agreements have been violated
• Actively oppose and vote against any additional military aid to the Israeli government

Today, we are releasing a new fact sheet and an updated version of our West Bank Access Restrictions Map, based on a comprehensive survey carried out by our field teams in December 2025.

• 3.4 million Palestinians affected

Yesterday European Foreign Ministries have failed once again to uphold their proclaimed values and laws in not voting for the suspension of the association agreement between the European Union and Israel. States are still divided, but Belgium, Slovenia, Spain, and Ireland will submit a request, even if only for a partial suspension. Who failed to join the crew? Italy and France. 

Italy and France have both claimed to restrict military cooperation with Israel. Two new reports show that isn't true. Our role is to influence true policy change beyond the leaders’ rhetoric and news headlines.

The last few weeks have felt eerily familiar.

“Ceasefires” broken within hours, millions displaced, and civilian infrastructure obliterated. Bodies pulled from rubble by hand, medics and journalists targeted. And no real consequences for the perpetrators.

We are witnessing the brutal reality of normalized genocide. Since October 2025 when the ceasefire was declared, Israel has killed over 680 Palestinians in Gaza alone. In the first 24 hours after Trump declared a “ceasefire” in the US-Israel war on Iran, Israel killed more than 250 Lebanese civilians. This is the true face of a ceasefire when genocidal states are not held accountable.

Israel’s violence will not stop until we make it stop.

The only way to end it is to end U.S. support for the Israeli state. Without U.S. financial, diplomatic, and military backing, Israel could not carry out these crimes.

For the first time in decades, this shift is within reach. Public opinion in the U.S. is changing, with growing support for Palestinian freedom. But public sentiment alone is not enough to save lives. We need to turn this support into political power to fundamentally shift the political calculus of our leaders.

That takes time.

It takes organizing, planning, and building long-term relationships. It requires forming coalitions and spending countless hours in conversation to ensure that when Trump threatens another act of genocide and community organizations mobilize to resist his fascism, we have the connections necessary to align them with Block the Bombs and our demands for an arms embargo and sanctions on Israel. This effort seeks to fundamentally redefine the U.S.-Israel relationship and halt the supply of weapons.

Highlights

• Ongoing strikes and environmental hazards, including pests and rodents, continue affecting residential areas across the Gaza Strip, putting people at risk and further undermining living conditions.
• Critical health services remain under strain, with medicine shortages increasing dialysis-related transfusion needs and largely halting cardiac catheterization.
• UN and partner aid inflows declined by 37 per cent between the first and second three-month periods following the 10 October 2025 ceasefire agreement – coinciding with reduced crossing operations, increased cargo returns, scanning malfunctions and other impediments.
• In the West Bank, two Palestinians were killed by Israeli settlers on 8 and 11 April, raising to 61 the number of those killed in settler attacks over the past three years, including 34 by Israeli settlers, 17 by Israeli forces, and 10 by Israeli settlers or forces.
• More than 80 Palestinians were displaced across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, between 7 and 13 April, including 47 due to settler attacks and access restrictions and 38 by lack-of-permit demolitions; in 2026, more than 2,500 Palestinians have been displaced by demolitions, settler attacks, and evictions.

Maandag begint een wereldwijde campagne van BDS tegen het grootste militaire bedrijf in Israël, Elbit Systems. Ook het Nederlandse leger is afnemer van Elbit. Maar veiliger wordt Nederland niet door de aankoop van Israëlisch wapentuig, integendeel.

Door orders te plaatsen bij bijvoorbeeld Elbit Systems, geeft Nederland steun aan een militaire industrie die profiteert van bombardementen op scholen en ziekenhuizen en van drone-aanvallen op hulpverleners en journalisten.

Door met Elbit zaken te doen gaat Nederland mee in de verwrongen logica van de Israëlische oorlogszucht. Duurzame veiligheid vereist juist het wegblijven van de Israëlische doctrine van gewelddadige onderdrukking.

BDS is er natuurlijk voor de Palestijnse rechten, maar door tegen Elbit te strijden behoedt BDS Nederland voor rampzalig veiligheidsbeleid. Steun ook daarom BDS. Stop Elbit.

Zo’n honderdduizend Palestijnen vluchtten tijdens de genocide uit de Gazastrook naar Egypte. Hun situatie daar, zonder wettelijke status, biedt geen enkel perspectief en drijft tot wanhoop. The Rights Forum sprak met enkele van hen.

Zo ook met Mahmoud, een man van eind dertig. Hij vertrok op 8 oktober 2023 met zijn gezin uit de Gazastrook naar Egypte. Het was toeval: hij had al vóór de Hamasaanval toestemming gekregen te vertrekken, hij wilde naar Egypte om zijn zoontje daar te laten behandelen aan gehoorproblemen.

Een dag na zijn vertrek bombardeerde Israël de Rafahgrenspost tussen de Gazastrook en Egypte, daarna werd die herhaaldelijk opnieuw getroffen. De grensovergang raakte beschadigd, het in- en uitreizen werd steeds moeilijker. ‘Het was goed dat we de Gazastrook hadden verlaten, de bombardementen zouden het gehoor van mijn zoon verder hebben verslechterd’, aldus Mahmoud.

Zijn huis in het vluchtelingenkamp Jabalia bestaat niet meer; Israël heeft vrijwel de hele wijk met de grond gelijkgemaakt. Zijn familie leeft nu – na talrijke keren te hebben moeten vluchten – in tenten in Deir al-Balah, in het centrale deel van de kuststrook.

Mahmoud heeft meerdere broers en zussen, maar ontwijkt vragen over hen. ‘God zij geprezen’, zegt hij keer op keer, terwijl hij zijn blik afwendt. Het is een uitspraak die dankbaarheid kan uitdrukken, maar ook acceptatie kan aangeven van het lot dat God iemand heeft toebedeeld. ‘We hadden het goed in Gaza’, zegt hij. Hij werkte in het autobedrijf van zijn vader. Het bedrijf bestaat niet meer: ook verwoest. ‘God zij geprezen.’

Mahmoud wil maar één ding: terug naar de Gazastrook, om daar te worden herenigd met zijn nog levende familieleden. Ook al betekent dat wonen in een tent. ‘Ik ben moe’, zegt hij. ‘Hier is niets voor mij. Daar ook niet, maar dan zijn we tenminste thuis.’

Burgerinitiatief voor Palestina voorbij 1 miljoen handtekeningen

Het Europese burgerinitiatief voor Palestina heeft deze week de benodigde 1 miljoen handtekeningen gehaald. Daarmee moet de Europese Commissie de eis van deze ruim een miljoen Europese burgers bespreken: de volledige opschorting van het EU-Israël Associatieverdrag.

Ook veel steun in Nederland
Voor de geldigheid van een burgerinitiatief moet, behalve in totaal een miljoen handtekeningen, in minstens zeven EU-landen een minimum aantal handtekeningen worden gehaald. Nederland is één van de landen waar dat doel is behaald: er waren er 20.445 nodig en de teller staat op het moment van schrijven op 41,148, dus ruim twee keer zoveel.

Het benodigde aantal handtekeningen is ook nog eens in recordtijd binnengehaald: in drie maanden. Daarmee is het een niet te negeren politiek signaal.

Vervolgstappen
Formeel moet de Europese Commissie het initiatief nu ‘bestuderen’ en met de organisatoren van de actie in overleg treden. Vervolgens presenteren de organisatoren het initiatief tijdens een openbare hoorzitting aan het Europees Parlement. Daarna heeft de Commissie een half jaar de tijd om te laten weten hoe ze invulling gaat geven aan de eis van de Europese burgers.

Het verzamelen van handtekeningen gaat door. Nog steeds geldt: hoe meer, hoe beter. 

Opinie | VVD laat het internationaal recht vallen als een baksteen

Donderdag vond in de Tweede Kamer weer een debat plaats over de situatie in het Midden-Oosten. En opnieuw zagen we het: de Tweede Kamer weet precies wat er gebeurt, erkent in toenemende mate dat het internationaal recht structureel wordt geschonden, maar weigert daar consequenties aan te verbinden. Dat schrijft Gerard Jonkman, directeur van The Rights Forum in een opiniestuk op onze website.

'Er is geen gebrek aan informatie. Er is sprake van een politieke keuze om geen actie te ondernemen tegen schendingen van het internationaal recht. Althans, als die worden begaan door bondgenoten. Dat werd geïllustreerd in de bijdrage van Nicole Maes (VVD) – een dieptepunt in het debat. En de zoveelste ontmaskering van de VVD als partij die zegt te staan voor het recht en de rechtsstaat.'

Maes koos voor het openlijk benoemen van de dubbele standaarden die de VVD hanteert. Zij stelde dat haar partij ‘geen behoefte heeft om een bondgenoot te veroordelen’. Daarmee zegt zij niet alleen dat er geen maatregelen volgen, maar dat schendingen van het internationaal recht – inclusief genocide, apartheid, marteling van kinderen en volwassenen, detentie zonder aanklacht of proces, buitengerechtelijke executies en de doodstraf voor het onderdrukte deel van de bevolking – niet eens meer veroordeeld hoeven te worden zolang zij door een bondgenoot worden gepleegd.

Analyse | Israëlische desinformatie bracht de VS tot rampzalige oorlogen met Iran en Irak

Waar Trump rekende op ‘een excursie’ is de oorlog tegen Iran uitgelopen op een ramp waaruit niet zomaar een uitweg bestaat. Dat gebeurde eerder tijdens de Irakoorlog. In beide gevallen op grond van Israëlische desinformatie.

Dat blijkt uit een reconstructie die The New York Times publiceerde van de Amerikaanse besluitvorming over de oorlog tegen Iran. De krant beschikt over informatie van bronnen uit de directe omgeving van Trump, die uitgebreider aan bod zullen komen in het boek Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump van Times-journalisten Maggie Haberman en Jonathan Swan. Hun boek verschijnt op 23 juni bij uitgeverij Simon & Shuster.

Yesterday, a historic vote took place in the Senate. For the first time ever, a majority of Democratic Senators voted in favor of resolutions to block the sale of weapons and bulldozers to Israel. While the resolutions did not pass, the votes mark a pivotal shift in the political calculations of Members of Congress, and signal their responsiveness to the growing pressure of the American people to stop enabling Israel’s crimes.

This May Day, we must turn up the pressure and make it clear that we are done with our taxpayer dollars being used to fund war, state violence, and genocide.

Last night’s Senate vote to block weapons to Israel was historic. In record-breaking numbers, 40 Senators voted for at least one of two resolutions to block bulldozers and 1,000-pound bombs to the Israeli military.

This vote proves two things. The first is that our organizing is working.

Over the last few weeks, JVP members have been organizing nonstop to push their Senators to block the bombs. Yesterday, more than double the number of Senators voted to block weapons than in 2024.

The weapons that the Senate voted to send to the Israeli military are the same weapons, paid for by U.S. tax dollars, that it uses to bomb refugee tents in Gaza, apartment buildings in Lebanon, schools and hospitals in Iran — and to bulldoze Palestinian villages across Gaza and the West Bank. 

The vast majority of people in the U.S. oppose the U.S. and Israel’s illegal and immoral war on Iran, and want the U.S. to stop funding and arming the Israeli military’s unspeakable genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

But we know that disapproval alone is not enough to move our elected officials. We need to change their calculations about who holds the power — and that takes organizing.

That’s why, for weeks and for years, JVP members across the country have kept up the pressure on their elected officials: calling, emailing, holding meetings, and confronting their Senators in public to demand they stop arming Israel.

Out of 13 Senators who voted to block the bombs for the first time, JVP members were actively campaigning to push at least NINE. In one action on Wednesday, over 300 New Yorkers staged a sit-in at their Senators’ office, demanding they vote to fund people, not bombs.

Votes on two resolutions that would block weapons and bulldozers to Israel are happening today and we need every Senator to vote YES

Today, the Senate is voting on two Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) that would block the transfer of U.S. weapons to Israel. These include S.J.Res.32 and S.J.Res.138, measures that would halt the sales of bombs and bulldozers that have devastated civilian life across Gaza, in the West Bank, and across the region (Iran, Lebanon, etc.).

TAKE ACTION NOW: TELL YOUR SENATORS TO VOTE YES

This is a direct opportunity to interrupt harm. For the first time, there is a visible shift on our side. The ongoing, unlawful U.S.–Israel war on Iran has fractured what used to be a near-unquestioned political consensus. We are seeing real cracks across both parties. But fractures alone don’t change policy; pressure does. 

An article published today revisits the story of Rachel Corrie, an American activist who was killed in 2003 while trying to stop an Israeli military bulldozer from demolishing a Palestinian home in Gaza. Her death should have been a turning point. Instead, it became a case study in impunity. No meaningful accountability was ever imposed, and in the absence of consequences, the same tactics didn’t stop; instead, they became a pattern. 

Twenty-three years later, the same machinery is still being used, central to Israel’s operations against Palestinians and others across the region, and directly tied to the weapons transfers being challenged in today’s votes. All while the U.S. is deepening its involvement in an unauthorized war in Iran, one that has already taken lives, destabilized the region, and is now hitting closer to home. 

Call your Senators. Email them. Demand they vote YES on these JRDs. And then tell a friend to do the same.

The Trump/Israeli War that Americans don’t want is killing thousands and destroying our economy

We are witnessing the continuation of an illegal, unauthorized, escalating war on Iran and the broader region that Congress never approved and that the American people do not support.

Over the past month, U.S. military actions, in conjunction with Israel, have already resulted in hundreds of casualties in Iran, Lebanon, and across the region. Tens of billions of our taxpayer dollars have already been poured into this war, while families here at home are paying the price through rising energy costs, market instability, and economic uncertainty.

This war has been waged on behalf of a foreign government and in service of a foreign entity's agenda. The U.S. continues to shield Israel from accountability, even as it expands military actions across the region, including continued strikes in Lebanon despite ceasefire expectations tied to broader regional de-escalation efforts. The Israeli assault in Lebanon is occurring with the explicit intent of seizing and occupying Southern Lebanon, and the Israeli military has made clear its intent to ethnically cleanse Lebanese civilians from the area.

And the result? The U.S. is becoming increasingly isolated on the world stage, standing apart as it enables actions that much of the international community has condemned.

This is a political choice, and Congress has the power to change course. It has the power to do its job and retake its Constitutionally mandated role as the only entity in our government with the power to declare war. So far, Congress, including Democrats, has completely failed to do so. 

Take action now and tell everyone in your life to do the same. This war will not end on its own. It will end because people make enough noise to force it to. The current pause is incredibly shaky, and a return to full-scale fighting is possible at any time. Indeed, fighting continues in Lebanon, along with Gaza, despite America’s commitment to a ceasefire on all fronts.

Highlights

• In the northern West Bank, Israeli forces extended for two months a military order that further prolongs the displacement from three refugee camps of over 33,000 people since January 2025.
• Another 5,700 Palestinians have been displaced because of settler attacks and access restrictions since January 2023.
• Israeli settler violence has further escalated, with March recording the highest number of Palestinian injuries by Israeli settlers in the last 20-years.
• Between 31 March and 5 April, taking approved supplies into Gaza was undermined by the reduced opening of Kerem Shalom, lower scanning capacity in Ashdod, custom-related delays and other disruptions to the supply chain.
• People in half of the displacement sites in Gaza are affected by skin diseases while rodents and pests are frequently observed in 80 per cent of the sites.
• A critical shortage of lubricating oil for electric diesel generators is expected to trigger a decrease in water production for drinking and domestic purposes.

Overview

Across the Occupied Palestinian Territory, people continue to be exposed to high levels of violence and restrictive policies, resulting in casualties and property damage, prolonging existing displacement, triggering new displacement and deepening humanitarian needs. At the same time, efforts by humanitarian partners to address people’s needs continue to be hindered.

Na tweeënhalf jaar heeft het Openbaar Ministerie (OM) nog altijd geen besluit genomen over onze aangifte tegen Booking.com. Daarom stappen wij, samen met onze partnerorganisaties Al-Haq, ELSC en SOMO, naar de rechter.

Juridische procedures zijn kostbaar. Om de kosten voor deze procedure te dekken zijn we weer een crowdfundactie gestart. Deze is hier te vinden.

Achtergrond
In november 2023 deden wij een aangifte, waarin we stelden dat Booking.com geld witwast. Dat geld wordt verdiend met de verhuur van accommodaties in Israëlische nederzettingen in bezet Palestina. Deze nederzettingen zijn volgens het internationaal recht illegaal en daarmee een oorlogsmisdaad.

Volgens ons profiteert Booking.com van de illegale nederzettingen en wordt het aldaar verdiende geld via Nederland witgewassen, in strijd met de Nederlandse wet.

Naar de rechter
Omdat het Openbaar Ministerie na bijna tweeënhalf jaar nog geen beslissing heeft genomen, starten wij nu een zogeheten artikel 12-procedure. Daarmee vragen wij het gerechtshof zelf te beoordelen of onze aangifte tot vervolging moet leiden. Het hof kan besluiten dat aanvullend onderzoek nodig is, of bepalen dat het Openbaar Ministerie Booking.com moet vervolgen.

Wij vinden deze stap noodzakelijk en urgent. Israël breidt zijn illegale nederzettingen al maar verder uit. Ook voert het zijn geweld tegen de Palestijnen in de bezette gebieden op. Uit ons onderzoek blijkt bovendien dat Booking.com sinds wij de aanklacht indienden het aantal aanbiedingen in de illegale nederzettingen heeft vergroot.

Landroof | Israël keurt recordaantal nieuwe illegale nederzettingen goed

Het Israëlische kabinet heeft de bouw van vierendertig illegale nederzettingen tijdens de oorlog tegen Iran in het geheim goedgekeurd, meldt de Israëlische nieuwszender i24. De geheimhouding had te maken met eventuele Amerikaanse druk af te zien van de bouwplannen.

Nog nooit eerder keurde de Knesset zoveel nieuwe illegale nederzettingen in één keer goed. Sinds 2022 heeft de Israëlische regering daarmee haar fiat gegeven voor de bouw van honderddrie nieuwe illegale nederzettingen.

Onder de nieuw te bouwen illegale nederzettingen is ook een onbekend aantal zogenoemde ‘outposts’; nederzettingen die ook volgens de Israëlische wet illegaal zijn. Die zullen met terugwerkende kracht door Israëlische wetgeving worden gelegaliseerd.

Kinderrechten | Defense for Children International-Palestine staakt activiteiten door Israëlische intimidatiecampagne

Defense for Children International-Palestine (DCIP) staakt zijn werk om Palestijnse kinderen te verdedigen na Israëlische beschuldigingen van ‘banden met terrorisme’. De organisatie heeft vijfendertig jaar Israëlische wreedheden tegen Palestijnse kinderen belicht.

Israëlische tegenwerking
In 2024 nam Israël wetgeving aan die humanitaire organisaties die hulp verlenen aan Palestijnen in de Gazastrook verplicht zich te registreren. De ngo’s moeten lijsten aanleveren van hun Palestijnse werknemers ‘om banden met terrorisme uit te sluiten.’ Als zij niet met die Israëlische eis akkoord gaan, dan zijn ze vanaf 1 januari 2026 door Israël verboden. De Israëlische wet wordt door internationale mensenrechtendeskundigen veroordeeld als een manier om humanitaire organisaties uit de door Israël bezette Palestijnse gebieden te weren.

DCIP was een van de organisaties die het doelwit was van de nieuwe Israëlische wet, en is daar nu dus ten onder aan gegaan.

Laatste oproep
In een verklaring over de sluiting van zijn kantoren doet DCIP een laatste oproep: ‘Palestijnse kinderen maken genocide, apartheid, militaire bezetting en de snelle uitbreiding van illegale Israëlische nederzettingen mee. Ze zitten gevangen in Israëlische martelkamers, liggen begraven onder het puin en moeten zich aanpassen aan levenslange handicaps. Ze verdienen bescherming en de verwezenlijking van al hun mensenrechten.’

Terwijl Israël Palestina vernietigt en verwoestingen aanricht in Libanon en Iran, maant de Palestijnse publicist Rajaa Natour ons de laatste woorden van Hind Rajab niet te vergeten: ‘Blijf alsjeblieft aan de lijn.’

'Dat waren Hinds laatste woorden. Niet alleen tegen de Palestijnse Rode Halve Maan-medewerkers in de Gazastrook, maar ook tegen jullie, tegen ons allemaal, overal ter wereld, en vooral hier in Nederland. Omdat het Internationaal Strafhof hier staat, maar ook omdat de Nederlandse politiek in weerwil van alles nog altijd zeer goede banden met Israël onderhoudt.

'Blijf aan de lijn. Geef niet op. Hind wilde zeggen: blijf rood dragen, blijf demonstreren, blijf mijn naam roepen, en de namen van duizenden kinderen in Gaza, Iran en Libanon die Israël op dit moment van de aardbodem veegt.'

Reportage NRC | Palestijnse kinderen gemarteld in de Israëlische cel
In een op 9 april verschenen artikel bericht NRC over een schokkend rapport van Save the Children over de behandeling van Palestijnse kinderen in Israëlische detentie. Het rapport werd aanvankelijk onder Israëlische druk niet gepubliceerd, maar komt nu alsnog naar buiten.

Op basis van getuigenissen en onderzoek schetst het rapport een indringend beeld van marteling, seksueel misbruik en uithongering. Sinds 7 oktober 2023 is de situatie van Palestijnse kinderen in Israëlische detentie enorm verslechterd.

Haags debat | VVD blijft UNRWA verdacht maken, CDA neemt de tijd voor noodhulp

Wat een week in Den Haag. De VVD blijft UNRWA verdacht maken. Het CDA vindt het ‘zorgvuldig’ om te wachten met het overmaken van extra geld naar UNRWA. Beide partijen stemden tégen een motie om in Europa voor sancties tegen Israël te pleiten wegens de doodstrafwet die alleen Palestijnen treft.

Deze week had BDS een boodschap voor de Albert Heijn. Moederbedrijf Ahold Delhaize zegt bij haar inkoopbeleid te staan voor mensenrechten, maar controleert geen producten uit Israël. Die producten komen vaak uit illegale Israëlische nederzettingen in de bezette Palestijnse gebieden. BDS Nederland was als aandeelhouder bij de aandeelhoudersvergadering en vroeg de bestuurders om maatregelen.

Het contrast tussen de laksheid van de Nederlandse overheid en bedrijfsleven en de wreedheid van het Israëlische regime was deze week hemeltergend. Terwijl de belegering en verwoesting van Gaza voortduurt, verwoest het Israëlische leger ook Libanon en doet het er alles aan om de oorlog met Iran te laten escaleren. En terwijl de bommen vallen, creperen onschuldige Palestijnen - waaronder kinderen en artsen - in Israëlische martelkampen.

Dat we de Albert Heijn nog moeten aanspreken is een schande. Dat de Nederlandse overheid geen maatregelen tegen Israël neemt is een schande. Het wordt met de dag duidelijker. Blijf BDS’en,

The Trump/Israeli War that Americans don’t want is killing thousands and destroying our economy

We are witnessing the continuation of an illegal, unauthorized, escalating war on Iran and the broader region that Congress never approved and that the American people do not support.

Over the past month, U.S. military actions, in conjunction with Israel, have already resulted in hundreds of casualties in Iran, Lebanon, and across the region. Tens of billions of our taxpayer dollars have already been poured into this war, while families here at home are paying the price through rising energy costs, market instability, and economic uncertainty.

This war is being justified with the same tired rhetoric we’ve heard for decades, claims of “freeing” people that, in reality, only leave civilians across the region more vulnerable, destabilize entire countries, and only serve a broader agenda of control over resources and, in simple terms, colonialism.

Just hours after a ceasefire agreement was accepted by Iran and the United States, Israel launched one of its largest waves of attacks on Lebanon.

More than 250 Lebanese civilians have been killed since this morning alone, and over one million have been displaced.

The only path to ending this destruction is by ending U.S. support for the genocidal Israeli state. Write your Representatives in Congress now and tell them to stop weapons to Israel.

In Beirut, airstrikes tore through densely populated neighborhoods and critical infrastructure. Entire blocks have been reduced to rubble. Hospitals already stretched beyond capacity are now flooded with wounded. People are being pulled from debris with bare hands.

In southern Lebanon, the invasion deepens with Israeli troops on the ground. The villages of Naqoura and Taybeh have been destroyed by Israeli bombardments.

Airstrikes and ground incursions are pushing into towns and villages, emptying entire communities under threat of death. The conditions for life are being systematically destroyed. And last night, just hours after the ceasefire agreement was reached, Israeli strikes killed Lebanese medics in Saida.  Heroes who ran towards the aftermath of Israel’s violence to save lives had their own lives ripped away.

The stories and images coming out of Lebanon echo the same stories and images that continue to haunt us from Gaza. This is not a breakdown of a ceasefire. As we witnessed time and again in Gaza, this is what a ceasefire means under impunity.

Write Congress: Block the Bombs to Israel

We are living in a moment where a U.S. president can publicly threaten genocide, that “a whole civilization will die,” and it is absorbed into the news cycle as just another statement.

While disturbing, this comes as no surprise to those who have been paying attention over the past two and a half years.

Our world leaders, liberals and conservatives alike, have normalized this level of violence in their refusal to stop Israel’s genocidal attacks on Palestinian life. Entire populations can be devastated, ceasefires can be broken within hours, and medics and journalists can be systematically targeted—with no real consequences or accountability.  

They have set a new precedent of what is permissible, without a redline in sight. This should terrify us all.

Without fail, in Palestine and Lebanon, Israel has shown us that it will not abide or be limited by “peace” agreements. Israel’s decision to escalate while the world watches and calls for restraint makes clear that a cornered and increasingly isolated Israel is at its most dangerous. It will continue to wreak havoc across the region and beyond in pursuit of its own genocidal expansionist ambitions if allowed to.

And still, the world speaks in half measures. The question is not whether this will continue, because it will. The question is whether anyone will force it to stop.

Tell Congress: Stop Weapons, Stop War

Israeli war crimes are backed by the full weight of U.S. political, military, and financial pillars. Without it, this level of sustained destruction is not possible. Unchecked Israeli violence is unfolding with the backing of decisions made here.

As long as U.S. support for Israel continues, there will be no meaningful incentive to uphold ceasefires, pursue de-escalation, or end the war.

We have won the public. Poll after poll show that the number of Americans who support Palestinian freedom is growing. A Pew Research poll released yesterday found that majorities of adults under the age of 50 in both political parties now rate Israel negatively.

We must turn public sentiment in favor of Palestinians and anger at Israel into political power.

Our lawmakers are feeling more pressure than ever to cut ties with the genocidal Israeli regime as it continues to drag the U.S. into another endless war—one that has devastating human and economic costs in the region and at home.

Israel’s escalations in Lebanon further expose its pattern of impunity

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) unequivocally condemns Israel’s horrific attacks on Lebanon. These attacks, even as a ceasefire with Iran was being announced, are a grotesque reminder of the impunity it has been granted for years. Within hours of the truce, Israel launched major strikes on Beirut and other parts of Lebanon, killing and wounding hundreds, despite public claims from mediators that the ceasefire was meant to halt attacks “everywhere, including Lebanon.” Israel, as always, rushed to cast itself as the aggrieved party while making clear it had no intention of honoring the basic premise of de-escalation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explicitly said the ceasefire did not apply to Lebanon, even as Hezbollah had reportedly paused attacks under the truce.

This is exactly what happens when the United States and other world leaders spend years giving Israel free rein to slaughter, starve, and destroy civilians en masse with no real accountability. After more than two and a half years of devastation in Gaza, and after repeated findings and warnings from major human rights bodies and UN experts describing genocide, extermination, and acts of genocide, Israel has only grown more emboldened. It has learned that it can bomb, besiege, violate ceasefires, and then hide behind the language of “self-defense” while the world scrambles to excuse its actions.

Iran’s ceasefire proposal, as publicly reported, called for an end to attacks on Iran and its allies. Yet Israel responded the way it so often does: by insisting on special exemption for its own violence. That is the pattern. Israel demands quiet from everyone else while reserving for itself the right to keep bombing, keep killing, and keep escalating. It claims victimhood in every forum, but when it comes time to uphold a ceasefire, it is Palestinians, Lebanese civilians, and the wider region who are forced to pay the price for Israel’s refusal to keep its word.

Israel’s actions are a political choice, enabled by governments, mainly the U.S., that have refused to impose tangible consequences on Israel for years. Every new strike on Lebanon, every shattered ceasefire, and every massacre carried out under the cover of diplomacy is the result of that failure. There can be no serious talk of peace while Israel is allowed to bomb its neighbors at will, violate agreements without consequence, and continue a campaign of annihilation in Gaza under the protection of the very governments now claiming to want calm.

The Trump Administration Must Immediately Rescind War Crime Threats and De-escalate Toward Diplomacy

[WASHINGTON D.C., APRIL 07, 2026] — Americans for Justice in Palestine Action (AJP Action) condemns President Donald Trump’s explicit threats to destroy Iran’s civilian infrastructure and annihilate its population ahead of an imposed deadline. His statement that “a whole civilization will die tonight” is a genocidal threat and a clear endorsement of war crimes under international law.

Trump’s threats to target civilian infrastructure, including power grids, transportation systems, and other essential services, constitute collective punishment. Under the Geneva Conventions, the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure is illegal. These statements signal intent to carry out actions that would devastate millions of innocent people and destabilize the entire region.

“The President of the United States is openly flaunting war crimes in the most direct way we’ve ever seen,” said Dr. Osama Abu Irshaid. “This is not leadership. This is a direct violation of international law, and a dangerous signal that civilian lives are expendable.”

AJP Action calls on the Trump administration to immediately rescind these threats and halt any plans that would target civilians or civilian infrastructure. The United States must end this war, engage in diplomacy, de-escalate tensions, and uphold its obligations under international law.

This war is already unlawful, and irreparable damage has already been done. The United States cannot continue down this path of endless war, threats, and destruction. The consequences are already unfolding, devastating civilians in Iran and eroding the United States’ standing and credibility across the world.

Getting in and out of the village isn’t always straightforward either. The road to nearby towns like Nablus and Huwwara can be blocked at short notice, making it harder for people to get to work, school, or medical care. Farmers sometimes have to ask for permission from the IOF in advance just to reach their land, and even then, access isn’t guaranteed. Especially during the olive harvest, when attacks escalate, everyday life can feel uncertain -- but people in Burin continue to adapt and resist by insisting on life.

For April's Virtual Visit, we'll be touring Burin with the charismatic Ghassan Najjar. During the Olive Harvest of 2023, Eyewitness Palestine donated 25 handheld olive harvesting machines to his village and surrounding villages.

Congress will soon have multiple opportunities to block weapons to Israel and to oppose any more funding for the war on Iran.

Right now, we are witnessing an alarming rise in anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia across the country.

Last Friday, news broke of a foiled assassination plot against Palestinian New Yorker and organizer Nerdeen Kiswani carried out by a member of the JDL 613 Brotherhood, a local group modeled off of the Jewish Defense League. We are so grateful that Nerdeen and her family are safe. Yet, the conditions that put her life in danger are still a threat to us all.

The harrowing plot on Nerdeen’s life is the product of years of attacks by anti-Palestinian Zionist institutions on her and other advocates for Palestinian freedom. And it is a direct outcome of the normalization of these attacks on Palestinian life by our institutions, lawmakers, and the media.

Their complicity has allowed this violence to proliferate in the U.S., and in Palestine and across the region.

In Gaza, Palestinians are still being bombed every day. While global attention turned away after the announcement of a so-called ceasefire last October, Israel has since killed at least 700 people in Gaza. Entire families are living under constant threat, sheltering in makeshift conditions as airstrikes continue.

In the West Bank, Jewish settlers are carrying out daily pogroms, targeting entire villages, burning homes and cars, and attacking Palestinians with impunity. The Israeli military has escalated its killings.

Just last week, a family from Tamoun was gunned down by undercover Israeli forces while driving home from a shopping trip. Four members of the family were murdered, including two children.

The growing violence against Palestinians is not just happening on the streets, it is being further codified. On Monday, the Israeli Knesset passed a measure advancing the use of the death penalty against Palestinian prisoners. The policy has been championed by Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s Minister of National Security, whose politics have been shaped by the Jewish Defense League—the same organization that spawned the attacker plotting to kill Nerdeen in New York.

Israel is using the same Gaza ethnic cleansing playbook in its current expansion into Lebanon, where it has killed more than 1,300 people and displaced over one million. Just this week, reporting revealed that Israeli military officials have been urging Christian and Druze communities in South Lebanon to force out Shiite Muslim neighbors who are seeking refuge among them as Israel intensifies its attacks on Shiite-majority towns.

Alongside the joint U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, Israel’s violence in Lebanon is part of the same trajectory of violence that has murdered, imprisoned, and expelled hundreds of thousands of Palestinians for decades. It is sustained by anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia that devalues Palestinian and Muslim life and makes this level of violence possible.

In order to understand this moment, we must understand that the same systems that enable violence abroad are reinforced by silence, distortion, and violence at home. Without this reinforcement, they are unsustainable.

It is our duty to disrupt this cycle.

We must call out and root out anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia, in our families, in our workplaces, and in our organizing spaces. This is a basic requirement to keep each other safe and resist the machinery that enables and normalizes this destruction.

We must also take action to hold our lawmakers to account.

When Congress returns from recess on April 13, the Senate is expected to vote on Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) to block certain weapons transfers to Israel.

This is a critical opportunity to apply pressure and make it clear to our lawmakers where we stand ahead of the midterm elections. We must demand our representatives take a stand against this cycle of violence and dehumanization.

We will not allow the violence to go unchallenged or complicity unchecked. Thank you for your clarity, courage, and action.

Highlights

• Aid workers continue providing supplies and services in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, but restrictions remain and needs often outpace available resources.
• In Gaza, cooking gas shortages undermine the operation of community kitchens and force nearly one in two families to use unsafe waste burning for cooking.
• UNICEF supported the reunification of 11 toddlers with their families in Gaza after they were medically evacuated as babies – some while still in incubators – in November 2023.
• In the West Bank, two in every three Palestinian fatalities so far in 2026 occurred since the regional escalation of 28 February.
• In March, over 200 settler attacks have resulted in casualties or property damage across more than 100 communities – about six attacks per day; six Palestinians were killed by settlers – the second-highest monthly toll since 2005.
• Displacement in East Jerusalem continues, with demolitions displacing 18 Palestinians in Silwan and many more families remaining at imminent risk.

Overview

Across the Occupied Palestinian Territory, increased levels of violence, recently tightened restrictions, and weather events, continue driving people’s reliance on humanitarian support while limiting what aid workers can deliver.

In Gaza, this is marked by continued strikes, reportedly causing civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, and major access and supply constraints, including those linked to the regional escalation. Most recently, damage to the electricity line serving desalination in the south sharply reduced the availability of drinking water for an estimated 500,000 people. Meanwhile, cooking gas shortages undermine what community kitchens can serve and force nearly half the population to rely on unsafe waste burning to cook.

In the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, following a slowdown in demolitions during Ramadan, demolition-driven displacement is increasing again, with the highest numbers recorded in the Al Bustan area of East Jerusalem – where the destruction of homes is linked to a settlement expansion plan. Attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians remain on the rise, resulting in casualties, damage and displacement, while Israeli forces have fatally shot more people.

De afgelopen week stond opnieuw in het teken van de Nederlandse financiering van UNRWA, de VN-organisatie voor Palestijnse vluchtelingen. Het debat daarover in de Tweede Kamer maakt duidelijk hoe humanitaire hulp, zeker aan de Palestijnse bevolking, een moeilijk punt is voor de Nederlandse politiek. Tegelijk waren de ontwikkelingen van deze week ook aanleiding tot voorzichtig optimisme.

Extra middelen voor UNRWA
Een meerderheid van de Tweede Kamer blijkt bereid extra middelen vrij te maken voor UNRWA. In een tijd waarin de humanitaire situatie in Gaza en de bredere regio dramatisch is, is effectieve en grootschalige hulpverlening onmisbaar. UNRWA speelt daarin al meer dan 75 jaar een centrale rol.

Het kabinetsbesluit om de Nederlandse bijdrage weer te verhogen naar 19 miljoen euro is dan ook een belangrijke en noodzakelijke stap. Daarmee geeft het kabinet concrete invulling aan de in het regeerakkoord aangekondigde herstel van de relatie met UNRWA.

Tegelijkertijd blijft het teleurstellend dat er geen Kamermeerderheid is gevonden om de eerdere bezuinigingen op ontwikkelingssamenwerking volledig terug te draaien. Die bezuinigingen hebben de Nederlandse inzet voor internationale solidariteit en mensenrechten aanzienlijk verzwakt.

Stevig debat
De manier waarop dit besluit tot stand kwam, leidde tot forse discussie en kritiek in de Kamer. Aan de linkerzijde was er grote frustratie over het uitblijven van steun van D66 om de onder het kabinet-Schoof doorgevoerde bezuinigingen op ontwikkelingshulp volledig terug te draaien. Aan de rechterzijde was er verontwaardiging over het feit dat D66 minister Sjoerdsma alsnog overging tot het herstellen van de bijdrage aan UNRWA, conform het regeerakkoord. Het onderstreept hoe politiek complex dit onderwerp in de huidige politiek situatie is geworden.

Eerste stap
Met het besluit om de bijdrage aan UNRWA te herstellen zet het kabinet een stap in de goede richting. Maar het is een beperkte stap. Het is nu zaak die lijn consequent door te trekken. Bijvoorbeeld door Palestina te erkennen, substantiële aantallen medische evacuatie van ernstig zieke Palestijnen toe te staan, militaire en academische samenwerking met Israël te beëindigen en alle economische relaties met Israël te verbreken.

Cyberveiligheid | Israëlische chantage dwingt Slovenië af te zien van steun aan genocidezaak tegen Israël

Op het laatste moment heeft de Sloveense regering afgezien van een zogeheten ‘verklaring van interventie’ in de genocidezaak van Zuid-Afrika tegen Israël bij het Internationaal Gerechtshof in Den Haag. Dat gebeurde op grond van een dringend advies van Sloveense veiligheidsfunctionarissen.

Die waarschuwden namelijk dat 'deelname aan de rechtszaak de nationale veiligheid van Slovenië in gevaar kan brengen, waarbij ze erop wezen dat veel van de cyberverdedigingssystemen van het land van Israëlische makelij zijn,' aldus Euronews.

De ‘veiligheidsrisico’s’ die hiermee gepaard gaan, zijn dermate concreet dat Slovenië zich gedwongen ziet zijn beleid aan te passen. Israël chanteert daarmee een Europese lidstaat om genocide op de Palestijnen ongemoeid te laten.

Israëlische inmenging in verkiezingen
Eind maart bleek ook dat een Israëlisch spionagebedrijf betrokken is geweest bij een lastercampagne ten bate van de rechts-populistische premierskandidaat Janez Janša. Hij nam het in de Sloveense verkiezingen op tegen de zittende links-liberale premier Robert Golob.

Apartheid | Parlement Israël stemt vóór doodstraf voor Palestijnen, Nederland neemt geen maatregelen

Het Israëlische parlement, de Knesset, heeft deze week een wet aangenomen die de doodstraf mogelijk maakt voor mensen die veroordeeld zijn voor moord met een ‘terroristisch’ motief. In de praktijk kunnen alleen Palestijnen op de Westoever deze ultieme straf door militaire rechtbanken krijgen opgelegd. Zo versterkt de wet het apartheidsregime in Israël.

Toch is er nog enige hoop dat mensenrechtenorganisaties de invoering van de wet nog kunnen tegenhouden. Meteen nadat het wetsvoorstel was aangenomen, liet de Vereniging voor Burgerrechten in Israël weten dat ze al een verzoekschrift had ingediend bij het Hooggerechtshof om de wet aan te vechten.

ederlandse reactie
Minister Tom Berendsen van Buitenlandse Zaken (CDA) liet via X weten dat Nederland zich heeft aangesloten bij een verklaring van Australië, Duitsland, Frankrijk, Italië en Groot-Brittannië. De ministers van Buitenlandse Zaken van deze landen vragen Israël om de wet in te trekken.

Maar, zo blijkt uit de kabinetsreactie, dit gebeurt voornamelijk omdat Nederland altijd tegen de doodstraf is. Dat de wet een nieuwe bouwsteen is in het apartheidssysteem waaronder de Palestijnen lijden, wordt in de gesprekken met Israël blijkbaar achterwege gelaten. In de ‘beslisnota’, ook van vorige week, wordt het feit dat alleen Palestijnen de doodstraf kunnen krijgen, helemaal niet genoemd. Nederland veroordeelt de wet dus, maar neemt geen maatregelen.

BDS werkt, actie loont. Deze week trok het pensioenfonds van de ambtenaren (ABP) zich terug uit het Amerikaanse bedrijf Palantir.

Dat het ABP nogal altijd investeert in farmaceut Teva bezorgt ons bijwerkingen als hoofdpijn en misselijkheid. Maar dat Palantir een prijs betaalt voor steun aan misdaden tegen de menselijkheid, is winst.

BDS steunt ook rechtsprocedures, ook daar zijn resultaten. Het Hof in Brussel oordeelde dat Belgische staat niet tijdig maatregelen genomen heeft de genocide te stoppen.

Het zijn lichtpuntjes in de schaduw van de voortdurende genocide. Het Israëlische parlement voerde deze week de doodstraf in voor Palestijnen alleen.

BDS blijft zich focussen op actie. We roepen op deel te nemen aan de demonstratie ter herdenking van de Palestijnse landdag, zaterdag 4 april op de Dam. En we blijven oproepen tot boycot, desinvestering en sancties. Blijf BDS’en!

For far too long, Palestinian voices have been sidelined in the halls of Congress. As I step into my new role as USCPR Action’s Political Director, I’m fighting to make our voices heard.

This is a critical election year, and with midterms coming up in November, one-third of the Senate and all 435 House seats will be up for election.

You and I both know that Palestine can no longer be the exception in U.S. politics. In a moment when the American general public overwhelmingly supports Palestinian rights, we need elected officials who will reflect that shift.

Our movement’s demands deserve to be heard, and with your generous support today, we are determined to make sure that candidates running for office will do just that.

Israel is using its war of aggression to tighten its grip on Al-Aqsa, we can’t allow that to stand

For over a month, Palestinian worshippers have been completely restricted from entering Al-Aqsa in occupied East Jerusalem. During Ramadan, when the compound should be filled with prayer, Israeli forces limited entry, erected checkpoints, and used force to disperse people attempting to worship, even on the outskirts of the compound. Israel imposed a full closure of the Mosque and the Old City at the start of its war of aggression on Iran on February 28th, invoking the oft-repeated “security concerns” justification due to its war of choice. But these restrictions are part of a long-standing system that controls who can enter, when, and under what conditions, routinely denying Palestinians their basic right to worship. The closure continued through Eid, and now Israeli officials have stated it will be closed through mid-April.

Take Action: Demand Accountability and Protection for Al-Aqsa

It doesn’t end there. The Jerusalem Governorate has warned of organized settler efforts to carry out animal sacrifices inside or around the Al-Aqsa compound, a direct provocation that threatens to ignite widespread violence and further violate the sanctity of one of Islam’s holiest sites. These actions are part of a broader push by extremist settler groups seeking to fundamentally alter the longstanding status quo of Al-Aqsa.

This comes on top of years of escalating incursions, attacks on worshippers, and attempts to undermine the custodial authority of the Islamic Waqf (endowment), which is responsible for administering the site. International law is clear: East Jerusalem is Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), and an occupying power has no sovereignty to impose permanent changes on religious or cultural sites.

Yet, the violations continue unchecked. We have seen how quickly U.S. officials can act when access to religious sites is restricted elsewhere. When Israel restricted access to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, U.S. officials, including Ambassador Mike Huckabee and Senator Ted Cruz, immediately pressured Israel to reverse course and restore Christian worship. That same urgency has been absent here. The administration must apply the same standard and pressure Israel to reopen Al-Aqsa Mosque and defend Palestinian Muslims’ right to worship.
